Vision Zero Cities Conference Wayfinding
The Vision Zero Cities Conference was taking place at Columbia University, a new location and on nonconsecutive floors for the first time. This required attentive wayfinding to move people to the site, from floor to floor, and from room to room. I started with floorplans and walked around with the Events Director to talk through the various movements as well as inventory of sandwich boards and easels. From there, I created locations for each piece of signage based on sightlines from the street, entryway, elevators, and stairs. Ultimately, signage consisted of sandwich boards on the street, easels in the lobby, easels on each floor at each sightline, as well as blown up schedules on each of the three floors and individual letter sized programming information sheets by the breakout room doors that were changed out between sessions. Despite the complicated layout, I was praised by attendees, staff, and the Executive Director for how easy it was to get around and find where they needed to be.
